Wildlife

Most of the birds that frequent barren alpine regions and alpine lakes exist in Padjelanta/Badjelánnda.

On the alpine heaths you hear dotterel, wheatear and meadow pipit. Ducks such as teal and common scoter swim in the lakes. During a lemming year, long-tailed jaeger and rough-legged buzzards are common. Sometimes the less common snowy owl breeds here.

Padjelanta/Badjelánnda is summer grazing land for reindeer. During the winter there is too much snow here for reindeer to graze in this area. Elk, wolverines and arctic fox also are present.
