Haparanda Skärgård National Park

People have long made use of islands in the area to hunt seals and fish. In late winter and early spring, they hunted seals out on the ice, and in the summer fishing for herring was important.

On Sandskär there are ancient remains, fishing cabins and an 18th century chapel that is still in use today. The national park was formed in 1995.
